Analyze inpatient admissions
Draft — 2026-09-26
Drafted from the screen's code on main (kareIntelligence 7455702). Not yet reviewed against a live session. Roles listed are the defaults the app's role matrix (@collabkare/ability 0.12.0) gives this screen's route; your organization's role overrides can change them.
Utilization → Inpatient shows hospital admissions, length of stay, cost per admit and the share of admits that began in the ED. It uses the same stay grain as the Readmissions screen.
Tabs
- Overview — stays, total inpatient pay, average length of stay (discharge − admit, in days), cost per admit and ER-origin admit share, plus monthly admissions and inpatient spend keyed on the admit month.
- By Facility — admissions, share of admits, spend, length of stay and cost per admit per facility across the filtered network.
- By Provider — PCP panels with admissions per 1,000 attributed members, listed most admissions first. Panels with zero admits stay in the list, because an empty row is information.
- By Diagnosis — episodes by principal diagnosis (the claim-level primary diagnosis of the stay).
Reading the screen
- Admits rising while paid stays flat suggests a thinner acuity mix; check By Diagnosis.
- A paid spike without an admit spike points at outlier stays; compare facilities on Cost / admit in By Facility (the table lists facilities by admissions and cannot be re-sorted).
Things to know
- Stays without a discharge date are excluded from average length of stay, and the screen says how many.
- ER-origin share counts an ED visit that converts on the same claim.
- This screen reads the analytics mart only; it has no CQL measures.
