Find a patient and open their chart
Open a patient's chart whenever you need to review or update their record. KareMD keeps up to five recently opened patients in an Active rail so you can switch between them without searching again.
Before you start
You need a role with chart access (most clinical roles have it; CMO and Medical Student roles see charts in view-only mode). In the left navigation, go to Clinical → Patients.
Steps
- Click Patients in the left navigation. The Patients page opens with a search bar and a list of recent patients.
- Type the patient's name or medical record number (MRN) into the Search by patient name or MRN... field. Results update as you type, showing name, age, MRN, date of birth, gender, and phone.
- Click the patient's row. Their chart opens on the Face Sheet summary.
- Use the chart's own navigation rail (left side of the chart) to move between sections: Summary, Clinical (Problems, Allergies, Medications, Vitals, Labs), Diagnostics (Radiology, Pathology), Orders & Billing, Care & Workflow, and Documentation.
- To work with several patients at once, open each one from Patients or a worklist. They collect in the Active rail on the far left of the chart (up to 5). Click a name to switch; click the × next to a name to remove it from the rail.
Tips / Troubleshooting
- You can also open charts from Worklists (for example, Today's Visits or Admitted Patients) — click a patient row there to jump straight to their Face Sheet.
- If a chart section is missing from the rail, your role does not include it. Contact your administrator if you believe you need access.
- If no results appear, try a shorter part of the name or double-check the MRN.
