Create a crisis plan

Create a behavioral health crisis (safety) plan for a member, following the Stanley-Brown structure: warning signs, coping strategies, supports, crisis contacts, and means safety.

Before you start

  • You need the Behavioral Health Clinician role.
  • Open the member first: go to Members → Member Search, find the member, and open their workspace.
  • Complete the plan together with the member whenever possible — a safety plan works best in the member's own words.

Steps

  1. In the member's workspace tab bar, find the Role Actions group and click Crisis Plan.
  2. Fill in the plan sections:
    • Warning signs (required) — thoughts, feelings, and situations that signal a crisis is approaching.
    • Internal coping strategies (required) — things the member can do on their own to take their mind off the crisis.
    • Social supports / distractions — people, places, and settings that can help.
    • Crisis contacts — pre-filled with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline; add the local mobile crisis line and nearest ER.
    • Means safety — the plan for restricting access to lethal means (firearms, medications, etc.).
  3. Click Save Crisis Plan. You return to the member's Face-Sheet.

When saved, the system stores the crisis plan on the member's record and raises a "Crisis plan on file" clinical flag so anyone opening the chart — especially before an acute visit — knows to review it.

Tips / Troubleshooting

  • Warning signs and Internal coping strategies are required; you'll be prompted if either is empty.
  • The active flag is visible on the member's Clinical Flags tab; the plan itself appears with the member's care plans.
  • Review and update the crisis plan after any crisis episode or significant change in the member's situation.
